Beginner West Coast Swing Dance Classes

Three Different Group Classes
To Suit Your Level

​Beginner Series (Level 1 Beginner): Every Sunday 4pm to 5pm

Perfect for people who have never danced West Coast Swing before. These classes are an easy fun way to learn the six basic patterns of West Coast Swing. No partner needed. No previous dance experience needed.

​The 6 week series is $95 plus tax.

​Basics Plus (Level 2 Beginner): Every Sunday 5pm to 6pm

This class is perfect for those people who already know the basic patterns of West Coast Swing. No partner needed.

PLEASE NOTE: you must already be competent with the basic 6-count and 8-count patterns (Sugar Push, Left-Side Pass, Right-Side Pass, Sugar Tuck, Traveling Tuck and Basic Whip) to join the Basics Plus class.

The 6 week series is $95 plus tax.

Intermediate (Level 3): Every Sunday 6pm to 7pm

This class is perfect for anyone with at least one year experience in West Coast Swing, or who has already completed both Level 1 and Level 2 series. No partner needed.

$20 drop-in fee per class (includes the social dance for free).

Social Dance (All Levels Welcome): Every Sunday 7pm to 9pm

The social dance brings everyone together for fun and practice. Meet new friends and dance to a wide variety of great music from blues to ​current top 40. All levels are welcome. No partner needed. The dance is FREE for anyone taking any of the classes. Otherwise $5 for just the social dance.

WHEN: Classes and dance are held almost every Sunday.

LOCATION: 3352 Dundas Street West, Toronto (at the corner of Runnymede and Dundas).

West Coast Swing Classes

Q. Do I need any previous dance experience?

Absolutely not! The Level 1 Beginner class is perfect for you. You can learn West Coast Swing in three easy steps, even if you have never danced before and have two left feet.

Q. What type of shoes should I wear?

If you already have dance shoes, then bring those. If you don't have dance shoes, then something with a leather or suede sole is best. If not, then just wear your most comfortable pair of shoes.

Q. What type of clothes should I wear to class?

Wear whatever you will feel most comfortable in. West Coast Swing is a very casual dance so wear your favorite jeans and t-shirt if you want.

Q. Is there parking available at the dance studio?

Yes, there is lots of street parking all along Dundas street in front of the studio.

There is also paid Green Parking right beside the studio (the studio is at 3352 Dundas Street West, at the corner of Dundas and Runnymede).

Q. How do I get there by TTC?

​Take the Bloor-Danforth subway line to Runnymede station.

Then take Bus 71 or 71B Runnymede North (about 5 min). Buses run every 10 min.

Q. I still have a question about the class or West Coast Swing. Can you help?

Q. Do I need to come with a partner?

No, you do not need a partner for the class. If you have someone you would like to learn with, that is fantastic. But you do NOT need a partner to take the class. The class is structured so you rotate with different partners throughout the class. It's a great way to meet new people and you also get to dance with a variety of leads and follows.

Q. Who is the instructor?

Your instructor is Shelley Saxena. Shelley has been dancing, studying and competing in West Coast Swing for 21 years. With an extensive background in Jazz, Ballet and Modern dance, Shelley is the only instructor in Toronto who specializes in West Coast Swing.

Q. Where can I practice what I've learned?

There is a social dance after the class from 7pm to 9pm. The social dance is FREE for people who take any of the three classes. Otherwise $5 for non-students.
