Q. Do I need any previous dance experience?
Absolutely not! You can learn how to dance West Coast Swing in three easy steps, even if you have never danced before and have two left feet.
Q. What type of shoes should I wear?
If you already have dance shoes, then bring those. If you don't have dance shoes, then something with a leather or suede sole is best. If not, then just wear your most comfortable pair of shoes.
Q. What type of clothes should I wear to class?
Wear whatever you will feel most comfortable in. West Coast Swing is a very casual dance so wear your favorite jeans and t-shirt if you want.
Q. Is there parking available at the dance studio?
Yes, there is lots of street parking all along Dundas street and it's FREE on Sundays. There is also paid Green Parking right beside the studio which is at 3352 Dundas Street West (at the corner of Dundas and Runnymede).
Q. How do I get there by TTC?
Take the Bloor-Danforth subway line to Runnymede station.
Then take Bus 71 or 71B Runnymede North (about 5 min). Buses run every 10 min.
The dance studio is at 3352 Dundas Street West, at the corner of Dundas and Runnymede.
Q. I still have a question about the class or West Coast Swing. Can you help?
Of course! If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact Shelley. She will be very happy to help you any way she can.
Q. Do I need to come with a partner?
No, you do not need a partner for the class. If you have someone you would like to learn with, that is fantastic. But you do NOT need a partner to take the class. The class is structured so you rotate with different partners throughout the class. It's a great way to meet new people and you also get to dance with a variety of leads and follows.
Q. I may have to miss one of the classes... can I still take the session?
Yes, you can. If for any reason you have to miss one of the classes, you can simply take the class you missed during the next session.
Q. Who is the instructor?
Your instructor is Shelley Saxena. Shelley has been dancing, studying and competing in West Coast Swing for 18 years. With an extensive background in Jazz, Ballet and Modern dance, Shelley now specializes in West Coast Swing.
Q. Where can I practice what I've learned?
There is a social dance after the class from 7pm to 9pm. There is no charge for people who are in the beginner classes.
